About Hayzlett Counseling Co.
A practice rooted in creating nurturing spaces for you to flourish and heal.
What's our mission?
At Hayzlett Counseling Co., we offer a safe, supportive space for individuals seeking guidance and growth. Specializing in relational, personalized, and trauma-informed care, we empower adults across the gender spectrum to embrace their authentic selves and build meaningful connections.
What's our philosophy?
Relational
We are honest in our humanity inside and outside of work. We show up as our authentic selves so you can feel safe doing the same. Through this nonjudgmental, honest approach, we create space to explore and uncover the most authentic version of you.
Integrative
Every client and session is unique, so we intuitively blend different therapeutic approaches. While working through your story, we may draw from existential, feminist, humanistic, psychoanalytic, and systemic theories to support your growth.
Trauma-informed
We enter the therapeutic space with the lens that most of us have experienced trauma. For some, this is really obvious trauma. For others, it might be a million little things or maybe the lack of some really important things, like love, safety, or connection.

Do you take insurance? We are not in-network with any insurance providers, but your insurance may offer out-of-network benefits to help cover the cost of our services. If you have out-of-network benefits, we’ll verify them for you and provide documentation to support your reimbursement claims, or you may pay in full and submit claims for reimbursement directly to your insurance. Please be aware that your insurance company will require a diagnostic code from the DSM-5 diagnostic manual for your claim to be considered for reimbursement, and this may become part of your permanent medical record, which could affect you in several ways, such as qualifying for life insurance or obtaining certain security clearances.

Do you have a sliding scale?Yes! We reserve a percentage of our caseload for sliding-scale clients, so if you need a reduced rate, please add this request in the comment section of the contact form. These spots are income-based and require reapplying every six months to ensure space is available for others. If you are unable to wait for a spot to open, we’re happy to provide you with a referral list, and we encourage you to check out Open Path for practitioners with sliding-scale openings.

How do I prepare for a session? After our consultation call, you’ll receive intake paperwork through Simple Practice’s patient portal. This will include practice policies, information about HIPAA and confidentiality, payment details, and a short questionnaire to help us learn more about you. For following sessions, feel free to prepare in whatever way works best for you! Between sessions, you might practice mindfulness or communication skills, read a book, or explore other tools we discuss together. When it’s time for your session, you could grab a coffee on the way or, if you’re meeting from home, set up a comfortable and private space where you feel at ease.

How do walk and talk sessions work? We’ll meet at one of the local Nashville trails/greenways. Of course, we’ll chat about that before we meet. Your therapist will send you a reminder email with directions the first time, and you’ll meet in the parking lot and go from there! Some of these trails are perfect for an hour loop, while others are in-and-out trails, so your therapist will set a timer for you to go out for about 25 minutes and then turn back to get you back to your car by the end of the hour. Often we find some places to sit and enjoy nature along the way, so don’t worry about your ability to walk for an hour. We are happy to adjust to all body comfort/ability needs.

What is a consult call with a therapist? How do I know if we’re a good fit?First, we’ll schedule a 20-minute consultation call to get to know each other. During this call, the therapist will explain the intake process and what working together might look like. You’ll also have the chance to share what you’re looking for and what you hope to accomplish. A consultation call with a therapist is a brief (usually 15-20 minutes) conversation where potential clients can ask questions, learn about the therapist’s approach, and determine if they feel like a good fit before scheduling a full session. It’s an opportunity to discuss therapy goals, ask about specialties or treatment styles, and address any concerns about the process—all in a no-pressure, no-commitment setting.

Do you work with kids or families? We do not work with families, or children. Our practice sees adults 18+ and does not have a family therapist on staff.
